During the past decade, fieldbus technology has gained widespread acceptance in industry and has become a central component of automation technology. From origins in manufacturing automation, fieldbuses have gradually established themselves in process automation applications. Over time, two different communication technologies have been developed to transport the field device data via the particular fieldbus system to the host DCS and Asset Management system: A WIB working group is comparing systems and application specifics, in order to give members the right background and arguments to arrive at an optimum selection for their application. This workshop will provide introduction and background information as well as discussion opportunity. Program You can download the Workshop Program in PDF-format: Workshop Program Morning Session (45Kb)
Preview The discussion leader during this morning session will be Mr. Frans van Laak, Senior Engineer Instrumentation DSM Services. Mr Herman Suselbeek, WIB Consultant will introduce the subject by describing the characteristics and global differences between the EDDL and the FDT/DTM approaches. The meaning of EDDL for the industry will be clarified by Mr. Ingo Weber of Siemens. After a coffee break, Mr Steve Chilton of Omron will explain the advantages of FDT/DTM. During a paneldiscussion the audience and speakers will challenge the both technologies. Discussion topics: EDDL, well know among suppliers of process systems, is based on an international standard and operates independent of software releases. FDT/DTM on the other hand provides for a practically unlimited functionality for end-users,and is therefore popular among field instrument manufacturers. After the conclusions and closing address the visitors are invited to continue the conversation in the refreshment room. Where an informal lunch is offered by WIB. During the afternoon a visit to the fairs during De Industriële Week will be worthwile. Register
